Stolen Plane’s Pilot Arrested

Press Release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office;

“Cape May Court House, NJ – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Cape May City Police Chief Anthony Marino announce the arrest of James P. Dahlen, Jr. the 51 year old pilot
who landed a plane on the beach of the US Coast Guard Training Center Cape May.

On Sunday June 24, 2018 at 7:52 PM, a plane owned by Paramount Air Service landed on the beach of the Coast Guard Base and the pilot, later identified as James Dahlen of the 300 block of Route 47 South in Cape May Court House, fled the scene. Dahlen was unable to be located and Cape May Police issued a warrant for his arrest.

This morning, Dahlen contacted the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and made arrangements to turn himself in. Dahlen was then arrested without incident at the Prosecutor’s Office and was transported to the Cape May City Police Department where he was charged with Criminal Trespass, a crime of the 4th degree, and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center pending Court Proceedings.* According to Prosecutor Sutherland, additional charges may be pending against Dahlen.

Prosecutor Sutherland said an individual convicted of a 4th degree crime can be sentenced up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.

According to Prosecutor Sutherland, this incident is an ongoing investigation and the investigation is being led by the Coast Guard Investigate Service, along with the FBI, Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
