In the interview Mayor Byron addressed many of the concerns about coming to the shore.

When asked about what he thinks about folks coming down he said; “Well, we’re certainly not going to go against the governor. [Murphy’s stay-at-home order] You know, we’re not encouraging folks to come. But … as the weather gets nicer, the people are going to come down. So, we’re just telling people, if you’re gonna come down, you just need to listen to the health officials and practice all of the safe distancing that’s been explained to you already.”

As of today only essential businesses are open on the boardwalk. For now that is mostly restaurants. If you want to full list of restaurants open on the boardwalk click the link below.

Those rules require folks to only access the restaurant via the closest ramp and leave the same way.

When it comes to the beaches Byron feels that sometime before Memorial Day they will be fully open. As of right now they are only open for exercise.

Wildwood Crest announced that their beaches will be opening for exercise on May 2nd for recreational activities.

One of the biggest concerns people have about opening the beach is social distancing.

In an interview with us earlier today, Byron said that when it comes to social distancing he believes that the public has been well educated enough to know how to play it safe. With how large the Wildwood beaches are there is plenty of room for people to space out.

The Fox interview ended with a quote from Byron that showed great optimism. When asked what he thought about how the summer will be he said;

“You know what? I think at the end of the day, I think it’s going to be a great summer. I truly think it is. … What we lose in the beginning of the summer I truly believe we will make up  at the end of the summer. It will make for a better September and October.”
