It has been rumored for the past few weeks that a major movie was filming aboard the Battleship New Jersey. The speculation started when a large barge carrying camera equipment and tents appeared alongside the ship, followed by the battleship unexpectedly closing to the public for what it called prior engagements.

Then came perhaps the biggest clue yet. A military-style helicopter was spotted landing on the stern of the Battleship New Jersey, something many longtime commenters have said, hasn’t been done since the legendary battleship was decommissioned.

While the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial would know the ship’s full history better than anyone, but like most major Hollywood productions, the crew can’t really fill us in.

No official announcements had been made about what was being filmed or why Camden was chosen.

The production is the latest sign that South Jersey has become an increasingly attractive destination for major film studios.

In recent years, New Jersey’s expanded film tax incentives, diverse landscapes, and proximity to New York and Philadelphia have helped transform the region into a hub for television and movie production.

Just this week, Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated science-fiction film “Disclosure Day” is set to hit theaters after filming scenes throughout South Jersey, including Woodbine, Tuckahoe, Buena Vista, and Upper Township.

We had the opportunity to visit one of the film’s South Jersey sets a few months back. You can watch that video at the bottom of this article.

The production showcased the area’s railroads, rural landscapes, and small-town settings, demonstrating the versatility that filmmakers are finding in the region.

Now, with “Little Falls” filming aboard the Battleship New Jersey and at locations throughout Camden, the region continues to build its reputation as a destination for big-budget productions.

There have been some rumors on who could me starring in this movie, but at this moment, none have been confirmed.

Although “Little Falls” is widely believed to be a working title and many details remain under wraps, its arrival is another indication that South Jersey’s growing film industry is showing no signs of slowing down.
