We have some upsetting news coming out of Wildwood today.

Wildwood Loses A Neon Legend

The Wildwoods lost sign maker extraordinaire Bob Hentges this week.

For those who don’t know, Bob started A.B.S. Sign Co back in 1964 when Wildwood was booming. At that time motels down here wanted Doo Wop signs for their motels. Bob was the guy who made most of the iconic signs that you love today.

Some of his signs include The Lollipop Motel, The Suitcase Motel, The Satellite Motel, The Pink Champagne Motel, The Sea Scape Inn, The Sandpiper Motel, The Pan Am Hotel and countless more. He made Wildwood shine with miles of neon he installed through-out the island.

The facebook group, Wildwood’s Neon Nights & Motel Memories said it best by saying

“Bob was one of the first visionaries to bring the Wildwood’s of the 1960s and 1970s to life. He not only illuminated the island with his creative signage and his unique advertising concepts, but he gave us all memories that are instilled in our minds forever”

We send much love and prayers to his son Randy who took over the reins a few years back. Randy still maintains many of the signs that his father built back in the golden days of neon.

Even though Bob is gone his life will forever shine.
