On Friday July 20th, New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, will be signing a new bill that making smoking on the beach illegal.
The bill will outlaw smoking on public beaches through-out New Jersey while also creating smoking areas that makes up 15 percent of a beach.
This bill was approved in the New Jersey State Senate (32-1) and the Assembly (66-1) this passed June.
If you are caught smoking the fines would be $250 for a first offense, $500 on a second offense and $1,000 for a third offense.
This isn’t the first ban put in place for smoking on beaches. Back when Chris Christie was in office he banned smoking on state beaches and state-owned parks.
