Cape May Police Investigate Death at Cove Beach

The Cape May Police Department, in collaboration with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, is currently investigating a death that occurred earlier this morning at Cove Beach, located near the end of Beach Drive.

According to a statement released by Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Cape May Police Chief Dekon Fashaw, patrol officers discovered the body of a man, estimated to be around 50 years old, during a routine patrol of the beach area.

The incident was reported promptly, and detectives from both the Cape May Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office were dispatched to the scene to initiate a thorough investigation.

Despite the unexpected nature of the incident, authorities have assured the public that there is no cause for alarm. Prosecutor Sutherland emphasized that the investigation thus far has revealed no evidence of foul play. “This is a non-suspicious death,” Sutherland said in a press release.

“There is no threat to the public.” These initial findings have allowed investigators to rule out any criminal involvement, though the investigation remains active and ongoing.

As of now, the identity of the deceased man has not been released, pending notification of next of kin and further forensic examination. Authorities have also not disclosed the potential cause of death, stating that more information will be shared as it becomes available.

Prosecutor Sutherland has requested the public’s assistance in gathering information that could be pertinent to the investigation.
