South Jersey’s Elizabeth Mendel Headed to Miss America
Cape May Court House native Elizabeth Mendel, crowned Miss New Jersey 2024, is preparing to represent the Garden State at the upcoming Miss America competition in Orlando, Florida.
The event, steeped in tradition and pageantry, will hold its preliminaries on Wednesday, January 1, culminating in the highly anticipated Miss America Final on Sunday, January 5. Both events can be streamed live at MissAmerica.org.

South Jersey’s Elizabeth Mendel Headed to Miss America
Elizabeth Mendel, 23, has been a part of the Miss America Opportunity since the age of 16, leveraging her platform to champion Eating Disorder Awareness through her initiative, “Image is Everywhere.”
A survivor herself, Mendel’s advocacy stems from her personal journey of battling an eating disorder. She candidly shares her struggles with feelings of shame, inadequacy, and isolation during her recovery process to foster understanding and empathy for others facing similar challenges.

Hailing from the close-knit community of Cape May Court House, Mendel embodies the values of family, connection, and service.
Her upbringing in a small town has shaped her into a compassionate individual who cherishes relationships and actively seeks to improve the welfare of her community.
