Atlantic City Electric Agrees to New Audit
On December 5, Atlantic City Electric representatives met with Congressman Jeff Van Drew and his staff in Washington, D.C., for a productive discussion focused on customer concerns and improving service.
The meeting marked the beginning of what the company hopes will be an ongoing dialogue with the congressman and the South Jersey community.
“We take feedback from our customers seriously and want to ensure we are providing customers peace of mind.,” Atlantic City Electric stated in a release to the Wildwood Video Archive.
This meeting follows Congressman Van Drew’s address last October, during which he called for a federal audit of Atlantic City Electric’s billing practices.
The congressman expressed concerns that the response by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) to customer issues has been insufficient, leading him to advocate for more significant oversight and accountability.
All of these talks came after ACE customers started seeing their electric bills spike some even saying that their bill doubled.
ACE explained that there were two factors are driving up the bill increases. Part of it involved the hotter than usual summer while at the same time residential usage for June and July increased 20% compared to last year.

Many South Jersey residents remain frustrated, feeling that these explanations don’t fully address their concerns. Community members have taken to social media and local meetings to voice their dissatisfaction, sharing stories of struggling to keep up with the sudden cost increases.
In response to these concerns, Atlantic City Electric outlined several immediate next steps:
- Additional Auditing
Atlantic City Electric will conduct an additional audit to supplement its current rigorous and regulated auditing processes. This effort aims to ensure transparency and reinforce customer confidence in the company’s operations. - Enhanced Community Engagement
Building on its existing community outreach program, which included staffing more than 100 events this year, Atlantic City Electric plans to explore additional opportunities to connect with customers in person. These efforts will include providing individual customer support to address specific needs and concerns.
“Ultimately, we both want what is in the best interests of the people of South Jersey,” the statement emphasized. “Working with the congressman and his staff, we believe we can accomplish that.”
The dialogue between the utility, the congressman, and South Jersey residents will be crucial in shaping the future of energy services in the region.
