A beloved Philadelphia institution is bringing its iconic frozen treats to the Jersey Shore. John’s Water Ice, a family-run business serving authentic Italian water ice since 1945, has announced the opening of a new location in North Wildwood, New Jersey.

This marks the company’s southernmost venture in the state, delighting both longtime fans and new customers seeking a taste of Philly tradition by the beach.

Founded by Sicilian immigrant John Cardullo, the original John’s Water Ice began as a seasonal extension of his ice delivery business.

Combining fresh fruit, sugar, and water, Cardullo hand-cranked batches of water ice in a stainless-steel drum encased in ice, creating a refreshing treat that quickly became a neighborhood favorite.

Over the decades, the business has remained in the family, with John’s grandson, Anthony Cardullo Jr., currently at the helm.

The company continues to use the original all-natural recipe, offering classic flavors like lemon, cherry, chocolate, and pineapple.

Those who stop by the Philly location on a hot summer day know to expect a wait due to the long line of folks eager to cool down with something cold. Don’t be surprised if the same happens at the new North Wildwood spot.

Located at 2022–2024 Boardwalk (20th and the Boardwalk), the new shop is in a prime spot for beachgoers and boardwalk visitors to grab a quick and refreshing treat.

The company announced the news on social media on April 17th, stating:
“Including the trucks, John’s is now up to six locations—with one more on the way.”
