Wildwood Boardwalk Renovation COMPLETE! | Phase 6 – Video Tour

The City of Wildwood has officially completed Phase 6 of its massive Boardwalk Renovation Project, marking the end of a years-long effort to revitalize one of New Jersey’s most iconic seaside destinations.

The Wildwood Video Archive stopped by to film a full tour video for you to see what the boardwalk looks like. You can watch it at the bottom of this article.

The final phase, which spans from Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue, was awarded to Fred M. Schiavone Construction who did a fantastic job in renovating the boardwalk, and expanding it.

This project was a combination of two different projects, the Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction and the Wildwood Boardwalk Expansion Project.

Since 2020, the Wildwood Boardwalk has been undergoing a multi-phase transformation to replace aging infrastructure and ensure the safety, durability, and charm of the 2-mile-long stretch.

The primary focus throughout the project has been on fully replacing deteriorating wooden decking, removing the concrete tramcar paths, and upgrading essential features like lighting, bike racks, and railings.

The entire renovation initiative was made possible by the $100 Million New Jersey Boardwalk Preservation Fund, launched by Governor Phil Murphy in August 2023. The fund, administered by the Department of Community Affairs, supports shore towns with boardwalk repair, reconstruction, and accessibility improvements.

Wildwood was one of 18 coastal municipalities selected to receive funding based on the scope of their needs and financial constraints.

The Wildwood Boardwalk Expansion project is quite different since it involved making parts of the boardwalk 14 feet wider.

For those who don’t know, boardwalk blocks North of Mariner’s Pier are roughly 60 feet, while until is roughly 14 feet.

On a busy summer’s night, the Southern part does seem to be much more packed. The expansion project hopes to fix that by added 14 feet more of space between Adventure Pier and the Wildwoods Convention Center.

Included in that project was the addition of two pavilions for visitors to sit under during a hot day.

At this time, most of the projects have been completed with the exception of the pavilions, the lights and a ramp.

Over the last four years, Wildwood’s Boardwalk has seen a transformation that not only preserved its nostalgic charm but also ensured it can continue to serve as a vibrant gathering space for future generations.

With Phase 6 now complete, the City of Wildwood can proudly say its beloved boardwalk is ready to welcome another century of beachgoers, families, and summer memories.
