North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction in the Works: Project Plans Revealed
Yes, it is finally happening!!!! After years of anticipation, North Wildwood is officially moving forward with the first phase of its long-awaited boardwalk reconstruction project.
As a reminder, when we talk about the Wildwood Boardwalk, it runs through two different cities, Wildwood and North Wildwood.
For the past few years, Wildwood had started their boardwalk reconstruction project, which saw a major facelift including the removal and the tramcar concrete pads, new decking, refurbishing the concrete supports, new railings, new steps and ramp,s and more.
According to a public notice issued by the city, sealed bids for the “Boardwalk Replacement, Phase 1” will be opened on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall, located at 901 Atlantic Avenue.
This marks the official start of the process to revitalize a critical section of the aging boardwalk between 16th and 18th Avenues.
The project is backed in part by $1,149,518 in federal funding through a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). Not sure if this project will also be funded by the $10.3 million grant that the city got last year as part of the Boardwalk Preservation Fund Grant.

That grant is part of the $100 million Boardwalk Preservation Fund that was established by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
Phase 1 of the boardwalk replacement involves the complete demolition of the existing concrete and timber structure, including current access ramps and stairs. In its place, the city will construct a new natural hardwood boardwalk that will feature:
- ADA-compliant ramps and access points
- Timber hardwood piles and framing
- Hardwood decking
- Aluminum railings
- Upgraded lighting and electrical systems
- Concrete pathways
The project aims to improve both the safety and aesthetics of this popular stretch of the North Wildwood boardwalk as Wildwood has done to theirs.
The application does not indicate if the new boardwalk will have the same design as the Wildwood section. The Wildwood Video Archive had reached out to the city prior to publication but haven’t heard back yet.
Contractors interested in the project must submit their sealed bids by the July 23 deadline.
Bid documents can be obtained from the city’s engineering office, Van Note – Harvey, Division of Pennoni, located in Cape May Court House.
With the launch of this first phase, the city is signaling its commitment to long-term infrastructure improvements and ensuring safe, accessible public spaces for years to come.
Are you excited to see North Wildwood’s boardwalk finally get some love?
