Meet the Toy of Summer 2025 – Labubu

Every summer, something fun happens on boardwalks all across the United States.

As families stroll past food stands and arcades, riding coasters or just soaking up the sun, a trend quietly begins to take shape.

Among all the flashing lights and carnival sounds, one toy, gadget, or quirky item suddenly captures everyone’s attention.

At first, it’s subtle. Maybe just one kid walking by is holding it. Maybe a boardwalk vendor is doing a quick demo, making bubbles, launching something into the air, or squeezing out a funny sound. Whatever it is, it catches your eye.

Then, just like that, it takes off.

Within days, you see it everywhere. Kids are begging their parents for one. It’s being sold at every third stop on the boardwalk.

You hear laughter, see kids showing them off to strangers, and realize you’re in the middle of that summer’s big craze. Stores can’t keep them in stock.

Parents are searching up and down the boardwalk trying to find the toy of the summer.

Over the years, these toys have almost become a tradition of their own. Some have been goofy, some surprisingly clever, and others just flat-out fun.

We’ve seen everything from massive inflatable hammers that squeak when you hit someone, to adorable seagull plushies.

Bubble blasters once turned the beach into a cloud of glittering orbs. Fidget spinners and pop-it toys took over with their satisfying sounds and addictive motions.

Each summer seems to crown a new king of the toy world, something that becomes part of our warm-weather memories.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been keeping an eye out, wondering what will it be this year? What will rise above the rest to become the one item every kid (and let’s be honest, many adults) just have to have?

Well, the wait is over. The toy of the summer for 2025 has finally been spotted, and it’s already starting to pop up all over the boardwalk.

The official 2025 toy of the summer are Labubus

Labubu is a line of collectible designer plush toys featuring monster elves, created by Kasing Lung and sold by Pop Mart. These toys are inspired by “The Monsters” book series, which draws from Nordic mythology.

Labubu serves as both the main character and the brand name.

The toys are recognizable for their unique features, including pointy ears, large eyes, and a mischievous grin often showing nine visible teeth.

They come packaged in blind boxes, which adds an element of surprise and makes collecting them even more exciting.

Labubu toys, especially the vinyl plush blind boxes, have become highly sought after, and their availability can be challenging due to high demand and limited releases.

These collectibles are often sold through Pop Mart’s official website, Amazon, and select retailers. However, because of their popularity, they frequently sell out quickly, leading to a competitive buying environment.

We mention this because MANY of the Labubu toys being sold up on the boardwalk as fakes. You are able to tell many of these are fake from not only the quality of the toy when you open the box, but also the box itself.

These fake versions are sold at much lower prices but lack the quality and authenticity of the original toys.

Folks are advised to purchase from reputable sources to ensure they receive genuine products and avoid potential safety risks associated with counterfeit items. (I’m talking about all of you parents out there)

So what do you think of the toy of 2025?
