North Wildwood Boutique ‘That Shore Store’ Announces December Closure

That Shore Store, the North Wildwood boutique at 1707 New Jersey Ave known for its creative gifts, coastal aesthetic, and strong community connection, will officially close at the end of December.

Owner Irene, who opened the shop as a passion project and later expanded it with the Artists Annex, shared the news with customers in an emotional announcement expressing gratitude, pride, and the difficulty behind the decision in a facebook book post.

In her public statement, Irene said the choice to close the store was one she never imagined making. She says, “This decision was not an easy one, but given the brain injury I sustained last year, this is the decision that needed to be made for my own mental health. “

Customers who have followed her journey know how committed she has been to every detail of the store, from product selection to creating a welcoming space where shoppers felt at home.

More Than a Store, a Community Space

Since opening, That Shore Store quickly became more than a retail business. It became a place where locals and visitors connected and enjoyed browsing the shop’s mix of coastal gifts, cards, home décor, and seasonal favorites.

Irene wrote that she cherished every visitor and conversation, from neighbors who popped in regularly to vacationers who made the shop a must visit stop.

“I am so thankful for all of the visitors and neighbors I met at the store, the regulars who stopped in for chats; to share the highs and lows of life, the people who found joy in the store and those who said hello when I would see you around the island.  Please know that every person who told me how beautiful the store is, how much the island needed a store like mine, how you love to bring your family and friends in and show them the store, and everyone who laughed with me over funny cards and coasters, each of you made this decision harder.  I truly value every conversation had with you all” she said.

Supporting Local Artists Through the Artists Annex

One of the achievements Irene is most proud of is launching the Artists Annex, a creative extension of the shop that debuted this year. The Annex showcased work from talented artists across North Wildwood and Cape May County, giving them a dedicated space to share and sell their creations.

She said supporting local artists was an honor and encouraged the community to continue uplifting these makers even after the store closes. The Annex became a celebrated addition to the shop and reinforced Irene’s vision of creating a space that reflected the spirit of the Wildwoods.

Final Weeks, Sales, and Pop Up Possibilities

That Shore Store will remain open every Saturday and Sunday through December 21.

The shop will also be open on Black Friday and during the Christmas Village at Byrne Plaza. Irene plans to announce additional open days when possible on the store’s social media.

Shoppers can expect significant savings on nearly everything in the store, with the exception of select local artist items.

Irene acknowledged that many customers may not be able to visit before closing and encouraged anyone looking for something specific to reach out, as the online store inventory is not fully updated.

While the physical storefront will close, Irene assured customers this is not goodbye. She will continue living on the island and hinted at possible pop up events in the new year.

In her closing message, Irene thanked the community for its support, kindness, and countless memories. She said she hopes to continue seeing everyone around the island.

That Shore Store’s closing marks the end of a beloved local spot, but its impact on North Wildwood’s creative and community life will continue to be felt for years to come.

Irene, on behalf of all of us on the island, we want to express our sincere gratitude for everything you brought to North Wildwood. Your dedication, creativity, and kindness helped shape a business that truly reflected the spirit of our community. We wish you the best of luck!
