Bomb Threat Shuts Down Wildwood Boardwalk Temporarily
A busy stretch of the Wildwood Boardwalk was evacuated and temporarily closed on Friday afternoon, August 8, 2025, after police responded to a bomb threat targeting a business in the 3300 block.
According to the Wildwood Police Department, the call came in at 3:24 p.m. Officers immediately arrived on scene, moving quickly to secure the area and keep both visitors and employees at a safe distance.

Boardwalk businesses near the location were temporarily closed as a precaution, and crowds of beachgoers and tourists were directed away from the scene.
Once the area was secured, specially trained canine handlers with explosive-detecting dogs were brought in to search for any possible threat.
Officers described the search as “extensive and thorough,” covering not only the targeted business but also the surrounding boardwalk area. After the sweep was completed, no explosives or dangerous devices were found.
By late afternoon, the section of the boardwalk was reopened to the public, and normal activity resumed.

In their press release, authorities expressed gratitude to the other emergency responders who assisted, including the Wildwood Fire Department, the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wildwood Crest Police Department.
Their quick cooperation helped ensure that the situation was handled safely and efficiently.
While incidents of this nature are uncommon in Wildwood, law enforcement officials stressed that every potential threat must be treated with the utmost seriousness.
In their official statement, the department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents and visitors, saying, “Public safety will always be our top priority. We will continue to investigate and follow all leads until this matter is resolved.”
