Demolition Starts for 18 Unit Apartment Complex in Wildwood
Now that spring has officially arrived, construction season in the Wildwoods is beginning to ramp up in a big way. After a busy off-season filled with early groundwork and planning, crews across the island are now moving projects forward at full speed.
One area that continues to stand out is the stretch near Glenwood Avenue along the Boardwalk. Over the past few months, this section has quietly become one of the most active redevelopment zones on the island.
Between the newly added beach dog park, rapid progress on the Wild Resort, and Kay’s Oasis finishing out improvements along their block, the area is already seeing significant change. Now, another major project has officially joined that list.

Demolition Starts for 18 Unit Apartment Complex in Wildwood
Demolition Underway for 18-Unit Complex
Demolition work has begun at 401 East Maple Avenue, where an approved 18-unit apartment complex is set to rise.
The property spans multiple lots, stretching from Glenwood Avenue to Ocean Avenue and over toward Maple Avenue. The site was previously used as Mike’s Boardwalk parking lot and included a small structure featuring an old garage with a residential unit above it.
While exact construction records for the building are unclear, historical photos from the Wildwood Historical Society date the structure back to at least 1960, with the possibility that it predates that.
Initial reporting on this project surfaced a few months ago when plans were submitted and approved by the City of Wildwood’s Planning and Zoning Board. Although approval came quickly, visible progress on-site had remained limited until recently.
That has now changed.

Crews have begun tearing up large sections of blacktop and are actively gutting the remaining structure, signaling that the project is officially moving beyond the planning phase and into active redevelopment.
A Shift Toward Residential Living
According to plans submitted by LJKQ Real Estate, the development will consist of four multifamily buildings totaling 18 residential units. The design includes a shared pool, landscaped common areas, and a layout aimed at creating a cohesive residential community.
This approach marks a continued shift away from the traditional shore motel model that once dominated this part of the island. Instead, developers are leaning into modern coastal-style housing with amenities designed for longer-term stays and ownership.
LJKQ Real Estate is no stranger to redevelopment in the Wildwoods. The company has been involved in several projects across the island, including the transformation of the former Bonelli’s Market site. Their developments typically focus on upgrading underutilized properties while maintaining a clean, contemporary shore aesthetic.
A Neighborhood in Transition
With multiple projects happening simultaneously, the Glenwood and Maple Avenue corridor is quickly evolving. What was once a mix of aging motels, small structures, and surface parking lots is now being reimagined into a more modern residential and mixed-use environment.
The addition of this 18-unit complex further reinforces that shift, adding density and helping reshape how this section of the island functions beyond just seasonal tourism.

This project is just one of several currently underway in the Wildwoods. At the same time, Morey’s Piers is actively retracking sections of one of its roller coasters, another sign of continued investment heading into the summer season.
The Wildwood Video Archive recently visited the pier to document that progress in a new video.
