Earthquake Felt In New Jersey?

Earthquake Felt In New Jersey?

UPDATE: USGS says that while there was an earthquake off the coast of Puerto Rico, this did not make its way up to New Jersey. There have been no seismic events in our area today. Naval Air Station Atlantic City said that none of their planes were in the area.

Roughly around 1:20 today, we started receiving reports that people in our area had experienced some kind of seismic event.

It was also around that time that we felt the motion too that caused our house to sway.

We tuned to The Cape May Country Fire Wire Facebook group to see if others had experienced the same event.

A major post thread revealed that people in Marmora, Corbin City, Dennis Township, and even cities in Delaware all felt the same thing.

Some say that there was a smaller aftershock just a few minutes later.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a 2.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded just South-West of Guánica, Puerto Rico.

This occurred at 1:05 pm. It is possible that the earthquake’s waveform took a few minutes to reach us here in New Jersey.

Volcano Discovery also confirms that a seismic event took place off the coast of Puerto Rico. Their information seems to be in line with the same data the United States Geological Survey showed.

Until there is an official press release sent out we will not know what would have caused the tremors.

One thing this could also be is the Unites States Air Force doing some training out to sea. When their planes go Supersonic speed, it is possible that the boom creates a massive sound with a vibration. The Unites States Air Force does these trainings off the coast of Cape May and Delaware. While they may be a hundred miles off the coast the waveforms created by their sonic boom can be felt up to 200 miles away.

The last time we had any seismic events was back on June 9th, 2021. It was a 2.4 magnitude earthquake that was felt through most of the state.

Tune back later for more details.
