It’s been a challenging few years for fans of the beloved Morey’s Piers attraction, Boat Tag.

Originally located on Morey’s Adventure Pier, Boat Tag was a thrilling ride where players piloted small motorized bumper boats in a water-filled arena.

Equipped with ball cannons, participants could shoot at targets on other boats or stationary cannons lining the ride’s perimeter. Adding to the excitement, players could also aim for “bombs” suspended above the arena.

While Boat Tag didn’t crown a definitive winner, the experience of dodging cannon fire or navigating the water in tank-like boats made it a family favorite.

Opening in the mid-1980s, Boat Tag enjoyed decades of popularity before being removed in 2022 to make way for a revamped food court on Adventure Pier.

The new area now features fan favorites like Curley’s Fries, Bliss Coffee, and a beer garden.

The Boat Tag ride didn’t disappear entirely, though. It was sold to Malacari’s Produce & Deli in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where it was rebuilt with hopes of attracting visitors to the property.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck this past weekend.

A winter storm swept through the area, dumping approximately four inches of snow. The weight of the snow caused the structure housing the ride to collapse.

Malacari’s shared the heartbreaking news on social media:

“We are sad to announce that the winter storm that recently passed through the area caused severe damage to our boat tag water game located in Mountain Top. We will know more on the severity of the damage when the snow melts, but it’s a very real possibility that it is damaged beyond repair.”

While there’s still a sliver of hope that the ride might be salvageable, the damage could mark the end of an era.

According to Malacari’s, this is the last Boat Tag attraction still operating in the country—and possibly the world.

Losing this ride wouldn’t just be a disappointment for fans; it would represent the loss of a rare and nostalgic amusement experience.

For now, supporters will have to wait and see if Boat Tag can weather this latest storm.
