HGTV Picks Only One Jersey Town as a Top Christmas Destination
If you’re looking for the ultimate holiday destination this year, look no further than Cape May, New Jersey! HGTV has named this charming seaside town one of the top 50 small towns in America to visit for Christmas—and it’s easy to see why.
Between the gaslit streets, stunning Victorian architecture, and a calendar packed with festive events, Cape May feels like stepping into a Hallmark movie.
And no, no Hallmark movies have been filmed here yet but we did have Timothée Chalamet, Ed Norton, and Ell Fanning stop by last summer to film the Bob Dylan Biopic “A Complete Unknown”
Cape May is gorgeous all year round, but there’s something truly magical about it during the holiday season. The historic Victorian homes, twinkling lights, and old-fashioned gas lamps make every corner of the town feel like a Christmas card come to life.
HGTV even said, “Cape May is famous for its picturesque Victorian architecture. During the holiday season, its gaslit streets and wall-to-wall historic architecture set the tone for the holidays.”
The Wildwood Video Archive always stops by the shore towns to film what they look like during the Christmas Season. You can see our most recent tour at the bottom of this article.
One of the best ways to soak in the magic is by joining the Cape May Christmas Candlelight House Tour. Picture this: historic homes, decorated to the nines with garlands, lights, and all the Christmas cheer you can imagine, opening their doors for you to explore.
It’s like taking a step back in time while being surrounded by holiday spirit. Trust us, this is one event you won’t want to miss.
If you’re up for a ride, hop on one of the holiday-themed trolley tours. They’ll take you through Cape May’s beautifully decorated streets while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.
It’s the perfect way to soak in the sights without braving the chilly weather too much.

And for some festive shopping? The Washington Mall is gilled to the gill with the best spots to pick up a stocking stuffer.
While you’re there, stop by Congress Hall’s Winter Wonderland. There you can find the Enchanted Vendor Village which has unique gifts to handmade crafts. Plus there are activities for the kids including train & carousel rides.
HGTV definitely picked one of the best towns to check out this Christmas BUT be sure to visit the Wildwoods as well. It’s around this time when all of the Christmas lights start shining on your favorite beach stops!
