Human Skull Discovered in Woods in Whitesboro Section of Middle Township
Authorities in Cape May County are investigating after skeletal remains believed to belong to an adult were discovered in a wooded area of the Whitesboro section of Middle Township.

According to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super, the discovery was made on March 3, 2026, when a county resident walking through the wooded area came across what appeared to be a human skull. The individual immediately contacted the Middle Township Police Department to report the finding.
Law enforcement quickly responded to the scene and launched a coordinated search of the surrounding area. Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the Middle Township Police Department, Lower Township Police Department, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the Cape May County Land Search and Rescue Team, and the New Jersey Department of Corrections Land Search and Rescue Team.
During the search, investigators located and recovered additional skeletal remains believed to belong to an adult. Authorities have not yet determined the identity of the individual, and officials say the remains will undergo further examination as part of the investigation.
Prosecutor Sutherland said that the investigation is still in its early stages and that officials are working to determine the identity of the remains as well as the circumstances surrounding how they came to be in the wooded area.

At this time, a positive identification has not been made. Sutherland added that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Officials also emphasized that there is currently no indication of any threat to the public.
The Whitesboro section of Middle Township, located just west of Cape May Court House, includes wooded areas and open land where residents often walk or explore. Authorities have not disclosed the exact location where the remains were found.
Investigators are asking members of the public to come forward if they have any information that could help the investigation.
