Situated at the bustling intersection of 16th and the boardwalk, Pompeo’s Restaurant has been a revered fixture for over 45 years. Originally opened by the Klug family, this eatery, along with its neighbor Little Nicky’s, has long held a special place in the hearts of boardwalk regulars.

In 2017, both Pompeo’s Restaurant and Little Nicky’s closed their doors, leaving an iconic corner dormant. The once vibrant spot, brimming with memories, remained silent until 2019 when property investor John Galdo purchased 1610 Boardwalk.

The result was the revival of Little Nicky’s, orchestrated by Galdo’s daughter and her husband, the Pagan family. Alongside this resurrection, Rich and Liz Merlino took the reins of Pompeo’s, injecting fresh energy into the beloved establishment.

The Merlino family renovated the interior and exterior of the property bringing the sleepy Pompeo’s into a new phase of its journey. Along with many renovations, the Merlinos added many new events and entertainment making it one of the best places to eat on the boardwalk.

Some of these events included Christmas in July with Santa, a Dinner Buffet with the Little Mermaid, Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, and Family Karaoke Night.

Operating as separate entities, both families shared a common goal—to rejuvenate the 17th street corner and create lasting family memories for the community. The subsequent years witnessed successful seasons for both Little Nicky’s and Pompeo’s, with locals and tourists alike rediscovering the charm of this iconic location.

However, in the ever-evolving landscape of the boardwalk, change is a constant. Presently, the owners of Pompeo’s Restaurant have made the decision to seek new renters who can carry the torch forward.

For those who will be missing the amazing food at Pompeo’s do not worry! The family will be opening up a new establishment for the 2024 summer season. More details on that to come later on.
