Inside the 127 Year Old Wildwood Crest Mansion Listed for 2.7 Million

This month a remarkable piece of Wildwood Crest history quietly returned to the real estate market. Listed for 2.7 million dollars, this ten bedroom shore home is not just another property hitting the MLS.

When it was first built, it was considered a true seaside mansion, complete with detailed woodwork, stained glass windows, and a grand elevated porch that once overlooked nothing but dunes and open beach.

Long before modern Wildwood Crest took shape, before the motels, before the gridded streets and summer crowds, this home was originally constructed in 1898.

That makes it older than the town itself. While the borough of Wildwood Crest was incorporated in 1910, this house was already standing tall, watching the island develop around it. If walls could talk, this one might be the best storyteller in town.

The Wildwood Video Archive had reached out to the owners to film a tour inside this beautiful building. You can watch that video at the bottom of the article.

A Home Older Than the Crest Itself

The year 1898 places this home at the very start of Wildwood Crest’s transformation from untouched shoreline into a developing resort community.

At that time, most of the Crest was still open marshland with only a handful of cottages and early summer retreats scattered across the landscape.

To put its history into perspective, the southern end of Wildwood Crest originally stopped at Rambler Avenue because Turtle Gut Inlet had not yet been filled.

This means the Wildwoods you know today did not include Diamond Beach, Wildwood Gables, or several of the neighborhoods that now stretch farther south.

What is now Seaview Avenue once sat directly on the beach and carried the name Atlantic Avenue.

A small boardwalk even ran along that stretch, long before the modern layout took shape.

As the shoreline expanded over the years, developers added new blocks of land and pushed the town eastward.

The original Atlantic Avenue became today’s Seaview Avenue, a new Atlantic Avenue was created farther out, and eventually Ocean Avenue followed.

These changes slowly built the grid that now defines Wildwood Crest.

The fact that this structure has survived more than a century of storms, floods, redevelopment waves, and changing architectural trends makes it one of the oldest remaining residential properties in the Wildwoods.

A Look Inside the Mansion

Walking through this home feels like stepping into a preserved chapter of South Jersey’s coastal history.

The first thing that catches your eye is the craftsmanship. Nearly every room features original woodwork, carved trim, and decorative details that simply aren’t built today.

Stained glass windows glow beautifully when the afternoon light hits them, adding color and warmth to the hallways.

This stained-glass by the way, we need someone to help us determine who this is and what it represents as by the time the current family purchased it in the 1960s, there were no documentation on it.

The grand staircase, one of the most striking features of the house, winds upward with that classic Victorian charm that immediately transports you back in time.

Despite being more than a century old, the structure is solid, airy, and filled with natural light. You quickly understand why the listing agent hopes the next owner restores the home rather than tearing it down to make way for new construction.

Outside, the property spans a large corner lot with wraparound porches, a grassy side yard, and an in-ground pool tucked behind the house. It is rare to find this amount of land in the Crest, especially this close to the beach.

The owners had shown me some hidden pieces of garden decor that was found not too long ago which were Victorian edging made out of Iron.

A Family Home with Generations of Memories

After its early years as a beachfront retreat, the home is believed to have served as a bed and breakfast before being purchased by a local family in the 1960s.

For more than six decades, that family filled these rooms with summers, gatherings, and memories that stretch across generations. To this day, the rooms still have the original room numbers on them.

Today, the children of that family are selling the home, hoping it will find a buyer who can appreciate what it represents.

Their biggest wish is that the next owner preserves the character, history, and unique craftsmanship that make this house so special.

A Rare Opportunity in the Crest

With property values in Wildwood Crest continuing to rise and the average home value sitting near three quarters of a million dollars, a ten bedroom historic home on a corner lot is something you simply do not see often.

Whether restored as a year-round residence, reopened as a boutique rental, or reimagined as a luxury vacation retreat, the possibilities are endless.

This is one of those listings that truly reflects the spirit of the old Wildwoods. It stands as a reminder of where the island came from, and a rare chance to preserve a piece of its past.
