The film offers viewers a unique blend of heartwarming memories, laughter, and a touch of drama, all set against the backdrop of the New Jersey coastline.

You may have no heard of this movie since many of us didn’t even know a Jersey Shore-themed movie was coming out.

“Under the Boardwalk” introduces viewers to a unique love story at the heart of the Jersey Shore, where land crabs and sea crabs live in harmony, but rarely do they mix.

Movie Synopsis:

When Armen (a land crab townie) falls in love with Romana (a sea crab tourist) tensions between their friends and families rise. But when a storm casts the duo far from home, their love will lead them on an epic adventure that unites the divided community.

It stars Bobby Cannavale, Michael Cera, Steve Schirripa, Mario Cantone and Keke Palmer, who lend their voice to the hermit crabs.

In June of 2019, an animated film was officially announced by Paramount Animation, initially bearing the title “Jersey Crabs.”

Lorene Scafaria penned the screenplay for this project, and David Dobkin took on the role of producer However, in July 2020, it was revealed that David Soren had been appointed as the director, prompting a rechristening of the movie to “Under the Boardwalk”

“Under the Boardwalk” had its cinematic debut, courtesy of Paramount Pictures, in select theaters on October 27, 2023. Following this theatrical release, the film will be made available for viewing on video-on-demand platforms such as Paramount Plus starting on November 7.

Initially, the release date for the film was set for July 22, 2022. However, in January 2022, it was pulled from the release schedule, with “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” taking its place on that date.

In the film, you’ll be treated to a New Jersey-themed boardwalk, a picturesque beach, charming shops, and more, all of which appear to be a delightful blend of locations from all corners of New Jersey.

At one point, a grill, that pretends to be a water-tower, falls down with the name “Shore Point” on it but there is no indication on which Jersey Shore town was the main inspiration for the movie.

Reviews for the movie have been really good so far sitting at a 8 out of a 10 on IMDB.
