Morey’s Piers Announces Retirement of the SkyCoaster After 25 Years
For many visitors, the towering arch and the sight of riders swinging high above the boardwalk became a signature image of summer in Wildwood.
Now the ride that pushed thousands of guests to face their fears has taken its final bow.
This was the announcement the Wildwood Video Archive teased last week as crews were climbing its supports.
A Ride That Tested Courage
The SkyCoaster first appeared on Morey’s Piers in the late nineteen nineties and quickly became a rite of passage among thrill seekers.
Riders were hoisted more than one hundred feet into the air, released, and sent soaring in a giant arc over the beach and pier. The moment the cable was pulled and the free fall began created some of the most unforgettable memories on the Wildwood boardwalk.

It was a ride that demanded courage, rewarded bravery, and delivered stories that lasted for decades

For many guests it was the one attraction that symbolized crossing from simple fun to true adventure. It was also a favorite for spectators, who gathered along the railings to watch each drop and cheer on the next group of fliers.
It was so popular in fact that Morey’s Piers had two of these, one on Surfside and the other on Adventure Pier.
Morey’s Piers Looks Toward the Future
In their announcement, Morey’s Piers thanked guests who “faced their fears and took the leap” over the years, but they also hinted at something bigger.
Work is already underway to reimagine Adventure Pier. While the details have not yet been made public, the retirement of such a major attraction signals that the pier is entering a new phase of development.

Adventure Pier has been undergoing a slow transformation over the past several seasons, and removing the SkyCoaster may allow for expanded space, new ride layouts, or completely new entertainment experiences. With the company already teasing “many more adventures to come,” it is clear that this decision is part of a broader vision.
A Farewell to an Icon
For longtime visitors, the absence of the SkyCoaster will leave a noticeable gap in the skyline.
The structure itself was one of the most recognizable silhouettes on the pier. Its retirement marks not just the end of a ride, but the end of an era in Wildwood boardwalk history.

As with every major change on Morey’s Piers, fans are already wondering what comes next.
Whatever the replacement turns out to be, the SkyCoaster’s legacy will continue to live on through the stories, photos, and memories made by those who took the leap.
