Philadelphia’s very own Mummers make their way back to the Wildwoods on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 for the Mummers String Band Show, set to take place along Olde New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood.
The weekend of colorful sights and sounds begins Friday night starting at 7 p.m. for three hours of up-close and personal fun with the bands in Keenan’s Pub, Westy’s Irish Pub and Flip-Flopz. Bands will rotate playing hour-long shows inside the pubs and outside on Olde New Jersey Avenue creating a fun carnival atmosphere interacting with patrons, strutting and posing for photos.
Saturday’s entertainment will begin on the street at 3:30 p.m. featuring the Duffy String Band and the Philadelphia Mummers Chorus. The Mummers Strut Contest will begin at 4 p.m. featuring parade-goers performing their very best strut for the crowd followed by the Mummers Parade at 4:45 p.m. The parade will feature the top nine string bands from this year’s New Year’s Day Parade in Philadelphia.
Spectators will be able to get up-close views of the beautiful costumes and intricate dance steps these eccentric performers display during the parade, in addition to joining the fun and learning the famous ‘Mummers Strut.’
The show is FREE to attend and is fun for all ages.
