NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum Hosting Christmas in July Celebration

Believe it or not, Santa Claus is making a stop in Cape May County this weekend as Christmas and July will be celebrated all through-out Cape May County.

The Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is once again hosting its annual Christmas in July celebration on Saturday, July 25, giving families a chance to celebrate the holidays a little early while exploring one of South Jersey’s most unique museums.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. inside Historic Hangar #1 at Cape May Airport, with plenty going on throughout the day for kids and adults alike.

Of course, the biggest attraction is Santa himself.

Santa Claus will be at the museum from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and yes, he’ll even have his sleigh with him. The museum plans to park Santa’s famous ride among its collection of historic aircraft for the day, creating a pretty unique photo opportunity that you won’t find just about anywhere else. Whether you’re looking to get an early Christmas card photo or just want a fun picture with the kids, there will be several holiday-themed photo spots set up throughout the hangar.

The museum has also put together a full schedule of activities beyond meeting Santa.

Visitors can enjoy live music from Rich Angelucci, free face painting from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., a model train display, and live chalk art by Samantha Dahlstrom. Guests are even encouraged to lean into the theme by wearing Hawaiian shirts or other festive summer outfits, because after all, it is Christmas in July.

If you get hungry while you’re there, Hippie Kitty Coffee will be serving coffee and specialty drinks, while Victory Scoops, the museum’s aviation-themed ice cream shop, will have plenty of frozen treats available throughout the day.

If you’ve never been to the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum, Christmas in July is actually a great excuse to check it out. The museum is located inside the historic Hangar #1 at Cape May Airport, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training base.

Today, it’s home to historic aircraft, military artifacts, interactive exhibits, and stories honoring the 42 aviators who lost their lives while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood during World War II.

The Christmas in July celebration is included with regular museum admission, so visitors can enjoy all of the day’s activities while also exploring everything the museum has to offer.

If you’re looking for something different to do with the family this weekend, this is one of those events that’s a little unexpected. You don’t often get to see Santa standing next to a fighter jet in the middle of July, and that’s part of what makes it such a fun tradition in Cape May County.
