New Attraction Coming to Morey’s Piers?

New Attraction Coming to Morey’s Piers?

While many this past weekend were caught up in all the festivities over at the 2023 Barefoot Country Music Festival, others noticed something strange going on. On one of the piers, a new strange object appeared that hasn’t been seen on the boardwalk before.

The iconic Wildwood Boardwalk is often associated with its prominent piers: Surfside Pier, Mariners Pier, and Adventure Pier. However, there are three more piers that often go unnoticed: Sportland Pier, Seaport Pier, and old Hunt’s Piers, which complete the vibrant ensemble.

Despite their relative obscurity, these three piers possess distinct personalities and offer unique attractions.

Seaport Pier stands out as the ultimate destination for those seeking a blend of relaxation and entertainment, boasting a lively bar scene and a refreshing pool area. Meanwhile, Sportland Pier caters exclusively to thrill-seekers with its exhilarating array of go-kart racing tracks.

However, it is old Hunt’s Pier that truly sets itself apart from the rest. This historic pier has carved its own niche in the boardwalk for the many decades that it was used to entertain visitors from across the globe. Originally known as Hunt’s Pier and Ocean Pier, the amusement park was founded by William Hunt, a visionary entrepreneur, in 1935.

Hunt’s Pier quickly gained popularity with its array of thrilling rides, captivating attractions, and lively entertainment. The pier became synonymous with family fun and created lasting memories for countless visitors over the years.

On Christmas day, 1943, Hunt’s Ocean Pier was destroyed by fire but was rebuilt by 1957. Hunt’s Pier underwent several expansions and renovations, introducing new rides and attractions to keep up with the changing times. It became renowned for its iconic attractions, such as the Flyer roller coaster, the Golden Nugget Mine Ride, and the renowned Hunt’s Pier Train.

Hunt’s was sold in 1985 and operated under a few different names such as “The New Hunt’s Pier,” “Conko’s Party Pier,” and “Dinosaur Beach.”

By 1998 the pier would be closed for good with no more attraction being left on it besides the decaying Golden Nugget.

A few years after that Morey’s Piers had purchased the pier for a future roller coaster, “The Wild Woody” and a storage faculty for their maintenance and paint shops.

While the coaster never came to fruition, Morey’s expanded their faculties on the property saved the Golden Nugget by donating it to Knoebels, and made a home for the tramcars.

Why is this all important? We are getting there.

This weekend fans spotted what looks to be a ride vehicle sitting at the end of Hunt’s Pier. This ride vehicle was unlike anything we have seen on Morey’s Piers before. It looks like a red, white, and yellow child’s airplane with the tail number 0293.

One side of the plane had enclosed windows while the far side was open. This ride quickly had us running to our ride guide to see that it is part of the Zamperla Crazy Plane family.

Crazy Plane is a ride variation of Zamperla’s Crazy Bus, which is currently on Morey’s Mariner’s Pier, located next to the Pirates of Wildwood. (and is open for the summer).

This leads to the question, what is this ride doing on Hunt’s Pier?

From the look at the photos it looks like this ride needs to go through a massive renovation prior to being installed on any pier (if that’s where it’s headed).

More than likely Morey’s will have to give the fiberglass some love and give it a fresh coat of paint. It could be possible that this could replace the Crazy Bus down the line but that’s not something confirmed yet.

The current version of Morey’s Crazy Bus looks to have been installed on the piers back in the late 1990s. Over that time Morey’s have put this ride through extensive upgrades and maintenance overhauls to ensure that it operates at a high level.

Morey’s could as easily be repairing the Crazy Plane for another amusement park since they do have some of the best ride maintenance teams in New Jersey.

This is something to find out in the summer season 2024.

A few years back it was announced that the old Dinosaur Beach ride, Escape From Dinosaur Beach, was sold and being refitted for Santa’s Village Azoosement Park. You can check out that info in the video below.
