While the Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Project is nearly complete, another major development is well underway—the Wildwood Boardwalk Expansion Project.

This initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience by making the boardwalk wider and adding new amenities.

One of the key aspects of this expansion involves widening the boardwalk by 14 feet along the ocean-facing side between Roberts Avenue and Montgomery Avenue.

This additional space is expected to help alleviate congestion, particularly during peak summer events when foot traffic is at its highest.

Moreover, the extra width will improve accessibility and safety, ensuring that visitors of all ages and abilities can navigate the boardwalk more comfortably.

Many visitors may not realize that the width of the Wildwood Boardwalk varies significantly along its length.

The section stretching from 26th Street to Oak Avenue measures approximately 60 feet wide, whereas the portion from Schellenger Avenue to Creese Avenue is only about 44 feet wide.

This discrepancy has led to bottlenecks during high-traffic times, making the expansion a necessary improvement for the long-term viability of the boardwalk.

In addition to widening the boardwalk, the construction plans include the addition of several new pavilions. Initially, there was speculation that these pavilions would be built along the street-facing side of the boardwalk.

However, recent developments have confirmed that they will instead be located on the newly expanded sections, offering prime spots for relaxation and shade.

As construction progresses, these pavilions start to take shape. With a mid-May completion date in sight, visitors can already see the structures rising from the boardwalk, marking a significant milestone in the expansion project.

These new additions will provide much-needed sheltered areas where visitors can escape the heat of the summer sun or seek refuge during an unexpected rain shower.

The Wildwood Video Archive recently visited the boardwalk to document these exciting changes, capturing the first glimpses of the pavilions as they are being constructed.

These photos offer a sneak peek at what will soon become a new favorite gathering spot for beachgoers.

Once completed, these pavilions will not only add to the charm of the boardwalk but will also serve as convenient resting spots for visitors looking to take a break from strolling, shopping, or enjoying the amusements.

Whether for shade, shelter, or simply a scenic place to sit and enjoy the ocean breeze, these pavilions will undoubtedly become a cherished feature of the Wildwood Boardwalk experience.
