North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Officially Underway!

North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Officially Underway!

If you walked down the Wildwood Boardwalk this week, you may have noticed that some of the boardwalk is missing, quite literally.

Large sections near Morey’s Surfside Pier in North Wildwood have been torn up as the city officially begins its long-anticipated full-scale boardwalk reconstruction project.

This marks the start of a complete teardown and rebuild of the boardwalk between 24th and 26th Avenues, a major phase in the city’s ongoing effort to modernize its oceanfront infrastructure and the first of several projects expected in the years ahead.

Crews began mobilizing equipment earlier this month, fencing off sections and removing the top layers of decking.

The full reconstruction will continue throughout the fall and winter, with a target reopening date of April 2026, just ahead of the next tourism season.

By working during the off-season, officials hope to minimize disruptions for both visitors and local businesses that depend on summer foot traffic.

North Wildwood’s new boardwalk will feature a stronger and more uniform foundation designed to withstand decades of coastal wear.

City leaders say this approach will help eliminate the patchwork repairs that have characterized previous seasons, creating a structure that will last longer and remain safer for residents and tourists alike.

Two Wildwood Boardwalk Projects Happening This Off-Season

This is not the only boardwalk project happening this off-season.

Many visitors don’t realize that the Wildwood Boardwalk actually stretches across two different cities: Wildwood and North Wildwood.

Wildwood has been conducting its own reconstruction efforts for several years, with the most recent phase stretching from the Wildwoods Convention Center past the famous Wildwoods sign.

Even though both towns are working on boardwalk reconstruction, their approaches differ. While Wildwood’s process focuses on replacing wood planks and reinforcing existing concrete supports, North Wildwood chose a more aggressive strategy, a total rebuild from the sand up.

Both methods share the same goal: preserving one of South Jersey’s most iconic landmarks for future generations.

One thing to note, Gateway 26, the arcade that sits on the corner of where the construction is taking place, will still be open during construction. Their usual 26th street corner door will be open for those looking to strike it big in video poker.

As the project moves forward, the Wildwood Video Archive will continue to document every stage with new photos, drone footage, and on-site updates.
