North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Phase I Starting This Fall

North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Phase I Starting This Fall

Now that Wildwood is more than halfway through its multi-year boardwalk reconstruction project, North Wildwood will be joining in on the fun.

Those who visit the Wildwood Boardwalk may not realize that the boardwalk runs through two separate towns; Wildwood and North Wildwood.

This is why the Wildwood Boardwalk reconstruction stopped at 26th Street before moving in the other direction.

When New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy established the Boardwalk Preservation Fund last year, it allowed $100 Million to be divided up among all the towns in New Jersey to help repair their boardwalk.

As Murphy put it, “Boardwalks are the lifeblood of communities up and down the Shore as they connect shoppers to small businesses and bring families and friends together.” We can’t agree with him more. Memories are made up on the boardwalk.

North Wildwood was awarded $10.3 million from the fund, making it the third-largest recipient among the 18 municipalities involved. Wildwood received $8.2 million, ranking just behind in fourth place.

While Wildwood continues its reconstruction efforts this fall, which you can read about here, North Wildwood will begin its work on the northernmost section of the boardwalk.

This is the first time in many years that a large section of the North Wildwood boardwalk will be prepared.

The City of North Wildwood has issued a public notice inviting bids for this significant project which allows us to see all of the details of the project.

Spanning from 23rd to 26th Avenues, the project involves the complete demolition of the existing concrete tram pathways and timber boardwalk.

In its place, a new, state-of-the-art hardwood boardwalk will be constructed, featuring enhanced accessibility and modern amenities.

The new structure will include ADA-compliant access improvements, timber hardwood piles, framing, decking, aluminum railings, site lighting, and electrical upgrades.

Beyond the boardwalk itself, the project also includes concrete pathways storm drainage improvements, street and utility reconstruction, and the installation of timber/composite beach walkways and fencing.

It’s still unclear whether the new North Wildwood boardwalk will match the design of the existing one in Wildwood, but one thing is certain: exciting changes are on the horizon for the North Wildwood beachfront.

This project will be featured in our monthly reconstruction project videos which will begin at the end of October.

Bids for this project will be accepted until September 4th. there is no official date on when this project will start besides it being labeled as ‘fall.’

Back in February, we talked about this project via video. You can watch the video below.
