For the past year you have heard much discussion and news about the Wildwood Boardwalk reconstruction in the city of Wildwood. This project saw portions of the Wildwood Boardwalk torn down to their supports and rebuilt.
North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Project
Phase one of the project ran from Oak to Maple avenues and finished just before Memorial Day Weekend. It was well received between all visitors. This section was just the start of a five phase project to see most of the Wildwood Boardwalk in the city of Wildwood rebuilt.
Phase two is only a few weeks away and will be the longest section. Starting from where phase one ended, at Maple Ave, it will run all the way to 26th street.
Many readers have been asking if any sections of the North Wildwood portions of the Wildwood Boardwalk will be replaced. Today we might have an answer.
Prior to the pandemic, the city of North Wildwood would resurface its boardwalk in certain blocks at a time. The process of resurfacing their boardwalk is different than in Wildwood. While Wildwood removed their tramcar concrete paths, North Wildwood only fixes up the concrete work and replaced the layer of wood.
This had stopped due to unknown reasons but a public notice may have revealed that we could see another resurfacing again.
The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) had announced that they are considering a request for Federal assistance in the amount of $3,000,000 from the City of North Wildwood to fund reconstruction activities on the North Wildwood Boardwalk.
The Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), EDA is conducting an assessment of the potential of the proposed project to affect the environment and/or historic properties.
The project is for the reconstruction of approximately three blocks of the boardwalk, including existing utility infrastructure. The project will be located on the boardwalk between the 16th and 18th Avenues.
At this time the city hasn’t put out any information about this project. Hypothetically speaking, if approved in October, it would be enough time to get the project completed by Memorial Day Weekend 2023.
Stay tuned for more updates.
