North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Video Update

North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Video Update

If you have been wondering what is happening with the North Wildwood Boardwalk reconstruction, there is finally something new you can see and walk on.

After months of demolition and rebuilding, a newly completed section of the boardwalk is now open, and the progress is starting to become very noticeable.

The Wildwood Video stopped by on a cold, rainy winter day to check things out, and while the weather was not ideal, it actually made it easier to see just how much work has already been done.

What was completely closed off not long ago is now a brand new stretch of boardwalk, with additional construction continuing right next to it.

We filmed an entire video for you to watch at the bottom of this article.

The Order in Which the Project Started Matters

For those who don’t know, Gateway 26 is open year-round. In order to make sure they could be open during construction, crews finished the Southern-Ocean side of the boardwalk on 26th street first.

This allowed them to have a new entrance in front of the building so that crews could go back to the main entrance and remove the existing ramp and finish the work near Sam’s Pizza (which is opening in a few weeks)

Same Design, Brand New Construction

A big question from residents was whether the boardwalk would keep the same look moving forward. Now we have a clear answer. The design matches the sections completed a few years ago.

The tramcar runs on the straight wood, while the boardwalk angles inward on both sides. Everything lines up cleanly and feels consistent with the rest of the North Wildwood boardwalk.

Construction Pushing Toward 25th Street and Surfside Pier

Crews are moving quickly. From both the boardwalk and beach level, you can see work advancing toward 25th Street and closer to Surfside Pier. Pilings are in, side supports are going up, and it looks like they are getting close to laying more top decking in several areas.

At 25th Street, new ADA accessible ramps are taking shape on both sides. The concrete appears freshly poured, and these ramps will make access to the boardwalk smoother and easier once completed.

This is the first time North Wildwood has completely torn down and rebuilt its boardwalk rather than refurbishing it. With only about 10 to 11 blocks total, the city plans to rebuild a few blocks at a time over the next several years.

Based on how fast things are moving now, it looks very possible that this entire section will be open by Easter weekend. It may look strange while parts are ripped apart, but once you see how it is coming together, it is clear this boardwalk is being built to last for generations.

And for those asking, Wildwood’s boardwalk reconstruction project will resume in October of this year.
