Norwegian Cruise Line Issues Urgent Update for Philadelphia Passengers
Philadelphia is less than two weeks away from welcoming its first cruise ship in a very long time.
Norwegian Cruise Line is preparing to relaunch cruise operations out of Philadelphia at a new port located just on the Delaware river, next to the Philadelphia airport.
It was only a few months back that construction started on this new port area, but unfortunately, according to Philly Port, winter weather had pushed back the readiness of the port facilities. As a result, all embarkation procedures will temporarily take place off-site at a nearby hotel.
Information on this change has not been publicly released yet, but those cruising on the Norwegian Jewel was emailed a few days ago with what the new process will be.
If you or a friend might be sailing out of Philadelphia within the first few weeks of their cruising schedule, this is information you’re going to need to know.
Temporary Check-In Location and Process
For the initial sailings, all passengers will check in at the Clarion Hotel Philadelphia International Airport, located in Essington. (76 Industrial Hwy, Essington, PA 19029)
Guests arriving by airport transfers arranged through Norwegian will be taken directly to the hotel, while those arriving on their own will be guided by staff upon arrival.
At the hotel, passengers will complete the full check-in process inside a designated ballroom area.

Luggage drop-off will occur outside the entrance before guests proceed indoors. Parking will be available on-site for an estimated $16 per day, though rates may vary.
Once check-in is complete, passengers will board complimentary shuttle buses that will transport them directly to the port.
Importantly, Norwegian Cruise Line has made it clear that guests cannot access the port independently. Only those arriving via official shuttles will be permitted entry.
What to Expect at the Port
Upon arrival at the pier, passengers will go through security screening inside a covered tent before boarding the ship. The final approach to the vessel will involve a short outdoor walk, with visible construction still underway as the permanent terminal continues to be built.
Passengers are advised to dress appropriately for weather conditions and keep essential items such as passports, medications, and travel documents in a carry-on bag, as checked luggage will not be accessible until later in the day.
Disembarkation Plans Mirror Embarkation Setup
The temporary logistics will also extend to disembarkation. Guests who purchased airport transfers will be taken directly from the ship to the airport. All other passengers will be shuttled back to the Clarion Hotel, where they can retrieve their vehicles or arrange further transportation.
Ride-share services and taxis will not be available at the port itself, meaning travelers must plan pickups from the hotel location instead.
Officials say the current setup is designed to keep passenger flow efficient while construction continues. A permanent terminal is still in progress, and once completed, operations are expected to transition fully back to the port.
For now, passengers sailing out of Philadelphia should plan ahead, follow the updated instructions closely, and allow extra time as the cruise line works through this phased return.
