Ocean City Is Getting A New Fishing Pier

Ocean City Is Getting A New Fishing Pier

We are stopping by our sister town because we are getting a new fishing pier.

The popular fishing pier sitting beside the Ocean City-Longport Bridge is officially opening back up, and after months of construction, visitors will immediately notice a major difference.

On Friday, June 5th at 11 a.m., the Cape May County Bridge Commission will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the newly refurbished Ocean City Fishing Pier, marking the end of a major improvement project that transformed one of Cape May County’s favorite waterfront destinations.

The project comes after years of wear and tear on the aging structure. Originally created from a section of the old Ocean City-Longport Bridge that was preserved when the new bridge opened in 2002, the fishing pier has become a popular spot for anglers, crabbers, photographers, birdwatchers, and families looking to enjoy views of the bay.

However, by recent years, many of the pier’s amenities had begun showing their age.

This is similar to the North Wildwood fishing pier that opened up last year. An old bridge turned fishing pier gets a major refurbishment.

Deteriorating benches, aging railings, worn concrete surfaces, and outdated facilities led the Cape May County Bridge Commission to begin planning a major overhaul.

Officials said the goal was to improve safety, functionality, and the overall appearance of the facility while creating a better experience for both residents and visitors.

The project ultimately grew into roughly a $700,000 investment. Construction included new railings, upgraded seating areas, improved fish-cleaning stations, repairs to the concrete deck surface, enhanced fencing, upgraded lighting infrastructure, new trash receptacles, and improvements to the overall entrance and picnic areas.

According to Cape May County Bridge Commission Executive Director Kevin Lare, the vision extended beyond simply fixing a fishing pier.

The goal was to create “quality opportunities” not only for fishing and crabbing, but also for families and friends looking to spend time along the waterfront and enjoy the surrounding scenery.

Construction officially began following a temporary closure on March 2, 2026 and is now completed ahead of the busy summer season.

The official ribbon cutting will take place Friday, June 5th at 11 a.m. at the Ocean City Fishing Pier, located just north of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge. County officials are inviting the public to attend and be among the first visitors to experience the newly upgraded facility.
