Old Navy is Coming to Cape May County

There have been some rumors circulating that a new clothing store would be coming to Cape May County, and it turns out that they are true.

The Wildwood Video Archive reached out to Gap Inc., the owners of the Old Navy brand, back in February to find out if it was true.

At that time, there was no information available. However, in a recent follow-up email, we finally got our answer.

According to Old Navy’s Communications Manager, a new Old Navy location will be coming to Rio Grande, New Jersey.

Since Old Navy locations need a large space, there was only one available location that could accommodate such a store: the old Bed Bath & Beyond location.

Old Navy is known for offering a wide range of affordable, casual, and trendy clothing for men, women, children, and infants, making this new location something that people in Cape May County can really enjoy.

The closest Old Navy store is in Atlantic City, and to be honest, many would rather go to the Ross or TJ Maxx stores instead of driving all the way to AC.

It was announced back in April 2023 that Bed Bath & Beyond was going bankrupt and that they would be closing all of their remaining stores.

Prior to that, New Jersey was home to 13 Bed Bath & Beyond locations, including some in South Jersey besides the Rio Grande location, such as Deptford and Cherry Hill.

Some were hoping that the Rio Grande location would stay open during the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, but in the end, every location closed, and Overstock.com purchased them.

Guests can still shop at Bed Bath & Beyond, but it’s online only and is only a shell of its former self.

The closing of the Rio Grande location left the door open for other retailers to come in and call it home.

It was only six months ago when some work was spotted taking place at this older location.

The Bed Bath & Beyond sign was removed, and the entire inside of the store was gutted. Even though the BBB sign was removed, due to discoloration guests can still see the sign.

No sign went up saying that the space was for rent, but many knew that clearing out the store meant something was coming.

While there is no active construction going on inside the building at this time, Gap Inc. expects the new Old Navy location to be open sometime this September.

If you are looking for a job, they are currently hiring for all positions. You can apply to work for Old Navy on ZipRecruiter.com.
