Rio Grande Restaurant Catches Fire

Rio Grande Restaurant Catches Fire

Late last night, 911 received several calls about black smoke coming from the Tokyo Japanese Restaurant.

Located at 1711 Route 47 S, Middle Township, New Jersey, this restaurant had been closed for some time. Rumors were that it was being converted into an Indian restaurant.

The Rio Grande Fire Company responded to the call and reached the scene first due to their proximity to the restaurant.

According to a Facebook post, Quint 72 arrived and pulled 2- 1 3/4” hose lines and did an aggressive interior attack and kept the fire to the room of origin. Fire crews then did ventilation operations due to heavy smoke still inside.

No injuries were reported to fire personnel or persons who were nearby.

The Cape May County Fire Marshal was called and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Looking at the photos provided via Rio Grande Fire, the first looks to had started in the kitchen.
