The Harriet Tubman Museum Is Now Open in Cape May!
After many delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Harriet Tubman Museum is finally open to the public.
The Harriet Tubman Museum Is Now Open in Cape May!
Located at 632 Lafayette St in Cape May, the museum is in the Howell House, which used to be the Macedonia Baptist Church’s parsonage facility.
Over the past three years, the building was fully renovated to hold the museum.
They held their Grand Opening on Juneteenth and grew a crowd of 200+ at Cape May’s Rotary Park.
The event included African drumming, inspirational and speeches by prominent local leaders.
Many people don’t know that Harriet Tubman spent two summers here in Cape May working for the resort hotels as a cook and laborer.
The money that she saved up she used to help fund her Underground Railroad. She would even use Cape May as one of the stops on the Underground Railroad.
