The Residences on Pacific To Become A Hotel

If you have been following along with our monthly Wildwood construction updates you would know that the Wildwoods is going through a massive revitalization.

From new hotels to new businesses, the island will look very different by the time Memorial Day Weekend 2023 hits.

One of the projects we have been visiting for just about two years is The Residences on Pacific.

Introduced In October 2020, The Residences on Pacific plan was to remove the existing businesses, The Fairview and 2nd St. Annies (3601-3615 Pacific Avenue) to make room for a mix retail and student housing.

At ground level, the owners had planned to add in a liquor store and a bar while the top three levels would have been residential.

This building was being built for the sole purpose to address a big issue on the island, student housing. J1 students always have issues when trying to find a place to stay. This would have provided housing for just about 200 students.

A few months ago rumors started rolling around that this project was changing gears from J1 housing to a hotel. Many had concerns with this since there doesn’t seen to be enough parking for 74 units.

Published in the public notices on September 2nd we finally found out what’s happening.

According to the public notice, 3615 Pacific Avenue LLC and 3600 Pacific Ave LLC (the owners), are “seeking amended site plan approval in order to construct a 64 unit hotel complex, where a 74 unit high-rise multifamily residential building with commercial space on the ground floor was previously approved (the “Project”).”

This isn’t all the changes they want to make in the application. Below is a breakdown.

Eliminate the D(1) use variance and change the proposed use from a high-rise, multifamily residential building with commercial space on the ground floor to a hotel

Eliminate the traffic study waiver as a traffic study is completed and submitted

Parking variance to permit 80 parking spaces, consisting of stacked and valet parking located at 3600 Pacific Avenue and 4 parking spaces at 3601 Pacific Avenue

Eliminate the requirement for storage for 148 bicycles and provide spaces for 34 bikes

Eliminate the Deed Restriction limiting occupancy from March to October as the Applicant seeks to maintain the hotel year-round.

To sum up what was said. Since these are becoming hotel units they want to allow the building to be open year round, park cars across the street at the old bank (not sure if that building would be demolished) and remove the bike parking (which was only there for students).

Let us know what you think about these changes.

If you want to attend the board meeting, the initial public hearing has been set for September 12, 2022 at 6:00 p.m., at City Hall, 4400 New Jersey Avenue, Wildwood.
