Things To Do in the Wildwoods This Weekend: August 7-9

There are so many awesome events taking place this weekend in the Wildwoods, and so we wanted to put together a list of things for you to check out from August 7th through the 9th.

From baseball being played directly on the beach and a massive tattoo convention to lighthouse celebrations, craft shows, 5K races and even a Navy SEAL-inspired challenge, there is a little bit of everything happening throughout the island.

Here are some of the events you can check out this weekend.

National Lighthouse Day – Friday, August 7

Start the weekend by celebrating National Lighthouse Day at the historic Hereford Inlet Lighthouse in North Wildwood.

August 7 marks the 237th anniversary of the signing of the Lighthouse Act of 1789, and the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse will be celebrating with special activities from 9 a.m. until noon.

Visitors will have the rare opportunity to enter the Lantern Room at the top of the lighthouse. The celebration will also feature interactive activities with the North Wildwood Beach Patrol, North Wildwood Fire Department and North Wildwood Police Department.

There will also be a free raffle, with the first prize being a limited-edition North Wildwood 250th anniversary flag, along with giveaways while supplies last.

The lighthouse, located at 111 North Central Avenue, will remain open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free, although donations are accepted.

MudHen Beach Baseball Tournament – August 7-9

Baseball is coming off the diamond and onto the sand this weekend.

MudHen Beach Baseball, presented by Morey’s Piers, returns to the beach behind the iconic Wildwoods Sign at Rio Grande Avenue from August 7 through August 9.

Youth baseball teams will compete directly on the beach, where running, fielding and diving for a ball become completely different challenges thanks to the soft sand.

The weekend kicks off Friday with a Home Run Derby, followed by games Friday and Saturday and championship games on Sunday.

Even if you aren’t playing, there will be plenty happening around the tournament, including local food vendors, merchandise, bat demonstrations and other activities.

This is actually the first of two MudHen Beach Baseball weekends this summer, with another tournament scheduled for August 14-16.

Wildwood Tattoo Beach Bash – August 7-9

The Wildwoods Convention Center will be transformed into a massive celebration of tattoo art this weekend with the return of the Wildwood Tattoo Beach Bash.

Running Friday through Sunday, the three-day convention brings tattoo artists from around the country to Wildwood for live tattooing, competitions, entertainment and more.

Visitors can watch artists create everything from detailed black-and-gray pieces to elaborate colorful designs right on the convention floor.

The event also features vendors selling apparel, body jewelry and tattoo-related merchandise, along with live entertainment, sideshow acts and tattoo competitions throughout the weekend.

Hours are noon to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are available online or at the door.

Back to School Warehouse Clothing Sale – All Weekend

If you’re looking to do some shopping while you’re in town, the Back to School Warehouse Clothing Sale continues inside the Wildwoods Convention Center.

The sale features discounts of up to 80 percent on clothing and accessories, including T-shirts, hoodies, jeans, shorts, swimwear, footwear, pants, sweaters, dresses, skirts and outerwear.

The warehouse sale runs from July 30 through August 11 and is open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily, with an earlier 6 p.m. closing time on the final day.

Admission is free, all major credit cards are accepted and all sales are final.

“Live Like Bolle” 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk – Saturday, August 8

Saturday morning will begin with the annual “Live Like Bolle” 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk in North Wildwood.

Hosted by the Step Back Foundation, the event honors Bill Bolle and the kindness, positivity and light he represented.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at the 15th Street North Wildwood Lifeguard Station.

Both the 5K and one-mile walk take place directly on the beach.

Wildwood Crest 5K Beach Race – Saturday, August 8

There is another chance to race on the sand Saturday morning, this time in Wildwood Crest.

The Wildwood Crest 5K Beach Race begins at 8:30 a.m. on the beach at Heather Road.

The event includes a 5K race as well as a one-mile fun run and walk, making it an option for both serious runners and families looking to participate together.

Following the race, there will be refreshments, awards, prizes for overall and age-group winners and an assortment of door prizes.

Heart of Surfing Surf Day – Saturday, August 8

Heart of Surfing will host a special Surf Day Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the 2nd Street Beach in North Wildwood.

The nonprofit organization provides free surfing and skateboarding lessons to families with autism and other developmental disabilities.

The program gives participants an opportunity to experience surfing with volunteers in a welcoming environment right here at the Jersey Shore.

Boardwalk Craft Show – August 8-9

The Boardwalk Craft Show returns to the southern end of the Wildwood Boardwalk Saturday and Sunday.

Dozens of artisans and crafters will showcase handmade jewelry, artwork, home décor, beach-inspired items, homemade treats and other unique products with the ocean serving as the backdrop.

It’s a great opportunity to find something you aren’t likely to see in a traditional store or pick up a unique Wildwoods souvenir.

The show runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is free, and the event takes place rain or shine.

Wildwood Navy SEAL Challenge – Sunday, August 9

For those looking for something considerably more physically demanding, the Wildwood Navy SEAL Challenge takes place Sunday, August 9.

Inspired by elements of U.S. Navy SEAL training, the event tests participants’ strength, endurance and mental toughness through a series of exercises and challenges on the beach.

Competitors will face activities including sand sprints, ocean swimming, push-ups, pull-ups and weighted exercises, with the sand, surf and summer heat adding another level of difficulty.

The event is designed to challenge athletes and fitness enthusiasts while bringing a unique competition to the Wildwood beachfront.
