Update – Saving the Oceanview Motel Lobby

Update – Saving the Oceanview Motel Lobby

Over the past few days, we have been receiving a ton of questions asking us how the efforts are going to save Oceanview Motel’s Lobby. Here is the update. (Be sure to check out the video at the bottom of this article)

Just a recap of what got us here.

For those who don’t know, the new owners of the Oceanview Motel want to demolish its existing Doo-Wop Mid-century lobby and construct another condominium building in its place.

The Oceanview Motel’s lobby design, including its blast-off roof, is one of a kind in the State of New Jersey.

We are proposing that the owners preserve the lobby and build their new condominium building on the parking lot just behind the motel.

This would be a win-win-win for everyone. A win for the city as they get their ratables, a win for the owner as they will still get the same number of units to sell, and a win for Wildwood Crest as it gets to keep some of its identity.

We asked you all to download a letter and mail it to the city to encourage them to have the owners include the lobby in their design.

This was all prep-work for us to state our case on February 15th at the Wildwood Crest Planning Board.

(This brings us to today).

Just days before we were to present to the board, we got word that the application was not going to be talked about during the February 15th meeting. Instead, the application would be pushed back to the next meeting on March 15th.

So what does this mean? It could mean a few things. Maybe they weren’t ready to present, maybe they are changing their design? It could be many things.

For sure this means that you still have time to download our letter and mail it to the Wildwood Crest Planning board.

Thank you to all the amazing people who are helping us (hopefully) save this historic building.
