Wildwood Boardwalk Decking Complete: Phase 6 Reconstruction

As of February 21, 2025, the decking portion of the Phase 6 of the Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction has been successfully completed.

The official word came from the city of Wildwood’s Facebook page which they announced, “We are very happy to report that the boardwalk decking is 100% done! Stay tuned for more updates.”

This phase focused on the stretch from Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue, home to the Wildwoods Convention Center.

The project, awarded to Fred M. Schiavone for $4,173,387.01, was fully funded by the $100 million New Jersey Boardwalk Preservation Fund established by Governor Phil Murphy in August 2023.

The reconstruction involved replacing aging timber sections to provide a sturdier and more durable surface for pedestrians.

Upgrades included new railings and lighting to enhance safety and aesthetics, as well as the removal of old concrete trolley slabs to create a smoother, more modern structure.

Repairs to the underlying concrete substructure were also completed to ensure long-term stability.

Additionally, timber boardwalk extensions were reconstructed, and new timber stairs were installed to improve accessibility and functionality.

With the completion of decking and structural refurbishments, the boardwalk is still not open to the pubic just yet, but things are still on schedule to have it open by May of 2025. Realistically, crews are working so fast on the project that we could assume they would be done by the end of April.

What’s left of this project is the replacement of the railings, lights, the building of steps on to the beach and pavilions.

The city has plans to widen the southern section of the boardwalk by 14 feet toward the ocean, specifically between Morey’s Adventure Pier and the Convention Center.

This expansion aims to better accommodate large crowds and ease congestion during busy summer nights. The project has received state approval and is expected to start soon.
