Wildwood Memorial Day Weekend Events 2024 – Unofficial Start of Summer
Memorial Day Weekend is finally here, marking the unofficial start of the summer season. If you’re like us, you’ve been eagerly awaiting this weekend since last Labor Day. Despite the less-than-ideal weather forecast, there’s no doubt that you’ll make the most of this three-day weekend.
The Wildwoods have an array of exciting activities lined up. Here’s a roundup of what you can enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend:
Official Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony
Friday, May 24 @ 12 PM
Kick off the weekend with sandy toes and a celebration at the Official Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony. Held on the beach at Andrews Avenue next to the Wildwoods Convention Center, this event begins at noon. State, county, and local tourism officials, along with second-grade students from the island, will participate in unlocking the ocean with the Wildwoods’ large, ornate ‘W’ key. The ceremony features colorful kites as a backdrop, thanks to the simultaneous start of the International Kite Festival. The event is free and open to everyone, and media members are invited to join in by flying kites.
Wildwoods International Kite Festival (all weekend)
On the beach at Rio Grande Avenue, Wildwood and inside the Wildwoods Convention Center
The 38th Annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival kicks off at noon on Friday with the Unlocking of the Ocean event. Following this, the Kite Sales Tent opens, and there will be a Friday Night Social hosted by the local kite club, culminating in the 9 PM Illuminated Night Kite Fly. Over the weekend, enjoy auctions, large inflatable kite displays, team flying, and family games from 9 AM to 6 PM. Monday will feature the World Indoor Kite Exhibition inside the Wildwoods Convention Center. This event is free for spectators. More details can be found at SkyFestivals.com.
