Wildwoods Construction Update – Dec 2024

In our last Wildwoods Construction Update, we visited several sites to showcase some of the exciting developments coming to the island.

You can watch the full video update at the bottom of this article.

Here’s what we cover in this video:

Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Project Phase 6

Phase 6 of the Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction is progressing at a very fast pace.

Crews have not only removed all the concrete tram pads and repaired the underlying structures but are also actively installing new wooden decking on the boardwalk.

The boardwalk has now been decked from Spicer to Lincoln Avenues. Phase 6 will ultimately span from Spicer to Montgomery Avenues.

While the project is expected to be completed by May 9th, at its current pace, it may be finished much sooner.

La Cantina Tex/Mex Restaurant

The former Hurricane Night Club will soon be unrecognizable as it transforms into La Cantina, a Tex/Mex restaurant. The exterior will feature large windows and lush greenery, creating a fresh and inviting appearance.

Inside, the tropical vintage theme is beginning to take shape, with colorful tiles and light fixtures being installed. The owners plan to host a soft opening this spring, with the grand opening slated for next summer.

Sandy Boots Saloon

The Sandy Boots Saloon is under development at 219 E. Lincoln Avenue, taking the place of the historic Harbor Inn, which was a beloved Wildwood landmark before being demolished in June 2021.

In recent weeks, the exterior construction has been completed, and work on the interior is now underway. The goal is to have the saloon open and ready by spring.

This will be the second country-themed bar on the island, following Wildwood’s Honky Tonk Saloon, located just down the street.

2000 New Jersey Avenue Ice Cream Shop

A new ice cream shop is coming to North Wildwood at the corner of 20th Street and New Jersey Avenue. This location previously housed a golf cart rental store.

Crews have been working over the past month to install new pipes, replace the floors, and add windows to prepare the building for its new purpose. At this time, there is no information on what the shop will be called or when it will officially open.

Lou Booth Amphitheater

Many residents and visitors are still processing the news that the Lou Booth Amphitheater, located on the beach in North Wildwood, is required to be demolished by order of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

As part of a settlement between the city and the NJDEP, the amphitheater must be removed, and natural vegetation will be planted in its place.

There is no word yet on whether the city plans to build a replacement elsewhere on the island to compensate for this loss.
