The Wildwoods Construction Video Update Jan 2026
It is not just a new year in the Wildwoods. It is also a new month, which means it is time for our monthly recap of the construction projects currently taking shape across the island.
We are now just over four months away from Memorial Day Weekend, and despite the extremely cold temperatures, construction activity throughout the Wildwoods is clearly beginning to pick up steam.
Every month, we make it a point to visit as many active construction sites as possible and put together a video highlighting the progress, changes, and new developments. Viewer input plays a major role in shaping these updates, allowing us to adjust what we cover and dig deeper into the projects people are most curious about. (Don’t worry, we made sure to include the Crest this time)
In our latest video, which you can watch at the bottom of this article, we begin breaking down one of the most anticipated projects to start construction soon, the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier at Heather Road.

This project will bring something the Wildwoods has not seen in decades, a fishing pier that truly stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Plans call for the removal of the existing pier and the construction of a brand new structure that will extend approximately 1,250 feet farther into the ocean than where the current pier ends today.
The new pier is also expected to include upgraded ADA accessibility, modern lighting, and one of the most requested features from residents and visitors alike, direct steps down to the beach.
Once completed, this pier is expected to become a major recreational draw for Wildwood Crest and a significant upgrade to the borough’s beachfront amenities and maybe the return of the Wildwoods Fishing competition.
VIP Motel New Lobby in Wildwood Crest
Another project featured in this month’s update is the ongoing work at the VIP Motel in Wildwood Crest.
Construction is currently focused on a brand new lobby area, which will give the classic motel a refreshed and more modern first impression for guests
The work is being done super fast and the facade of the building gives a nice nod to the old lobby.

The iconic Wildwoods sign is also getting some much needed attention.
Crews have finished repainting the famous beach balls that sit atop the sign, restoring their bright colors and helping preserve one of the most photographed landmarks on the island.
For a few weeks crews had sandblasted each ball, primed it and painted it. Half-way through we had a snow storm which made the sandblasted beach balls look like snowballs.

While this may seem like a smaller project compared to new construction, it plays an important role in maintaining the visual identity of the Wildwoods.

We also stopped by the former Windward Motel site to check on progress.
While activity has been slower here compared to other locations, there are visible signs of movement as the property continues its transition. As more information becomes available, this site will remain one we keep a close eye on in future monthly updates.

In North Wildwood, work related to the boardwalk reconstruction continues to move forward.
Crews are now about halfway through the southern end of the North Wildwood Boardwalk (by 26th street). Work in this section was fast tracked to install a new boardwalk entrance, allowing Gateway 26 to shift access and proceed with the demolition of the existing concrete street entrance.
This is just a tease on what you can see in this month’s Wildwoods Construction Update.
As always, if there is a project you want us to check out next month, let us know. Your suggestions help shape what we cover as the Wildwoods continues to evolve heading into another busy summer season.
