Wildwoods Construction Update: Spring Brings Major Progress Across the Island

It’s time once again for our Wildwoods Construction Update, where we take you across the island to check in on the latest development projects shaping the future of the Wildwoods.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll notice it’s been about two months since our last update. You can thank a stretch of winter storms and weeks of below-freezing temperatures for that delay. That said, it wasn’t all bad. We even got the rare chance to ice skate on the beach, something that still feels surreal.

Those same conditions, however, slowed down many of the construction projects we’ve been tracking. Now, with spring officially here and more consistent sunshine finally arriving, work has picked up in a big way across the island.

In our latest video, which you can watch at the bottom of this article, we highlight several key projects now moving forward, including the highly anticipated Doo-Wop-style Wawa, continued bulkhead construction to protect against erosion, and ongoing progress at multiple major sites.

Before we dive in, a quick note. We know many of you will be asking about the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier, also known as the Heather Road Fishing Pier. At this time, there are still no updates, and construction has not yet begun. There is also no new information regarding the Ocean Holiday Motel. As for the Giant Wheel, progress continues as expected.

Below are just some of the projects featured in this update, with even more included in the full video.

Moose Lodge Expansion

The Moose Lodge has been steadily expanding over the fall and winter months. The new outdoor patio is nearing completion and will soon be ready for members to enjoy. Crews still need to finish the bar area, install lighting, and bring in outdoor seating. As a reminder, this space will be available to members only.

12th Street Bulkhead Construction

North Wildwood is continuing efforts to strengthen its shoreline with a new beachfront bulkhead running from between 12th and 13th Avenues up to 15th Avenue. This addition will connect with existing bulkheads, creating a more continuous line of protection against storm surge and erosion along this vulnerable stretch.

North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction

The reconstruction project near 25th Street is now about 95% complete. Decking, ramps, and stairs have all been installed, leaving just railings and lighting to be finished. The project is expected to wrap up within the next few weeks, and it’s coming together ahead of schedule. And honestly, it looks incredible.

Wild Resort Construction

One of the most talked-about projects remains the Wildwood Resort at Glenwood Avenue and the boardwalk. While it was originally expected to open last spring, that timeline has clearly shifted.

Over the winter, crews had to redo much of the building’s facade, including installing new structural I-beams. Now, construction is moving quickly. The top floor framing is in place, and crews are preparing for concrete work, flooring, and window installation.

That said, based on current progress, it’s unlikely this project will be ready this season. Large portions of the structure are still being framed, and sections of the building remain without exterior walls. Still, the scale and design are starting to come together in a big way.

On the same block, we also spotted a newly built dog beach and fencing around a nearby lot that is expected to become future residential development.

New Doo-Wop Wawa

At Schellenger Avenue and New Jersey Avenue, major progress is underway on the new Wawa. The former Rite Aid has been fully demolished, and crews have completed leveling work for the building pad.

This upcoming Wawa is designed with a Doo-Wop aesthetic, fitting perfectly with the Wildwoods’ iconic style. While construction is moving along, the project likely won’t be completed until late summer or early fall.

That’s just a preview of what’s happening across the island.
