The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, prompting Bridgeton police to respond to reports of a vehicle crash at the hospital on Irving Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a white Kia Forte had smashed through the ambulance bay entrance doors and traveled approximately 60 feet down a hallway.

Inspira Health Network confirmed that a security officer had to leap out of the vehicle’s path to avoid being struck. The officer sustained a minor injury in the process but did not require hospitalization.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old April Love of New Castle, Delaware, remained at the scene. Authorities confirmed she was unharmed, and no other injuries were reported.

Photos and videos shared on social media revealed the aftermath, showing the vehicle resting in the hallway amid broken doors and shattered glass. Hospital staff were seen surveying the damage in disbelief.

As a result of the incident, the hospital temporarily diverted ambulances to nearby facilities until about 3:30 a.m. while the damaged entrance was secured and an alternate route for emergency vehicles was established.

Despite the disruption, Inspira representatives reassured the public that the walk-in emergency entrance remained open throughout the ordeal, and patient care continued without interruption.

Police arrested Love and charged her with assault by a motor vehicle, endangering another person, and third-degree criminal mischief.

She is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail, awaiting further court appearances.

The motive behind the crash remains unclear, and investigators have not disclosed whether substances, mechanical issues, or other factors played a role.

This dramatic incident disrupted operations at the hospital on one of the busiest nights of the year. Inspira staff acted quickly to ensure patient safety while law enforcement secured the scene.

No further updates regarding the case have been provided as of Wednesday afternoon.
