Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Update Phase 6 – Drone Video

Phase 6 of the Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction has been underway since October of last year, and it looks like they’re nearing the finish line.

In this phase, we’re seeing renovations on the boardwalk from Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue (home to the Wildwoods Convention Center).

The bid was awarded to Fred M. Schiavone for $4,173,387.01 and is fully funded by the $100 million New Jersey Boardwalk Preservation Fund, established by Governor Phil Murphy in August 2023.

This means we’re getting a “new” boardwalk without it costing local taxpayers a dime.

This phase focuses on replacing aging timber sections to create a sturdier and more durable surface for pedestrians.

Upgrades to the boardwalk’s railings and lighting will enhance both safety and aesthetics, while the removal of old concrete trolley slabs—remnants of the boardwalk’s past—will make way for a smoother, more modern structure.

Additionally, repairs to the underlying concrete substructure will reinforce stability, ensuring long-term durability. To further improve accessibility and functionality, timber boardwalk extensions will be reconstructed, and new timber stairs will be installed.

The final design will match what we’ve seen in previous boardwalk projects.

The Wildwood Video Archive stopped by the project this past week to film the progress. To watch that video, scroll down to the bottom of this article.

From the photos and videos, we can see that crews are in the homestretch of refurbishing the boardwalk’s decking and concrete pillars.

Crews are currently working on Baker Avenue, the second-to-last street in this project. The decking will likely be completed by the end of February, but that doesn’t mean the project will be fully finished.

Once the decking is done, new railings and lights need to be installed, followed by the construction of steps and ramps.

There’s one additional aspect of the project that is not part of the current phase—the extension of the Wildwood Boardwalk by 14 feet toward the ocean.

This expansion was approved by the state a few weeks ago, and we were told it will begin soon.

For those who don’t know, the Wildwood Boardwalk varies in width. North of Schellenger Avenue, it is roughly 15 feet wider than the section south of Schellenger Avenue.

The city plans to widen the southern section to better accommodate large crowds and ease congestion during busy summer nights.

We’ve been informed that this expansion will begin soon and will apply only to the section between Morey’s Adventure Pier and the Convention Center.

As soon as that work starts, we’ll be sure to bring you video updates.
