The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has completed a study on NJ Route 147 also known locally as West Spruce Avenue and North Wildwood Boulevard, and have determined that the posted speed limits were too fast.

Over the past few decades, we have seen a change on Route 147. While in the past there were some houses, now we see that the entire street is dotted with new construction.

Due to this, we see more people having to slow down to turn into their driveways. This done at certain speeds could create accidents and so to remove that issue the speeds are going to drop.

According to the new advisory:

  • The speed limit on NJ-RT 147/West Spruce Avenue, from New York Avenue to the western base of the Beach Creek Bridge (approximately mile marker 3.25), is now reduced to 25 mph.
  • The speed limit on NJ-RT 147/North Wildwood Boulevard, from the western base of the Beach Creek Bridge to Ocean Drive (approximately mile marker 3), is now set at 40 mph.

So, what is this in more relatable words?

Entering the island in North Wildwood – The big bridge into the small turn into North wildwood is at 40 mph. After that it is 25 mph.

Leaving the island in North Wildwood – As soon as you hit the intersection where New Jersey Ave and New York Ave meet, the speed limit is 25 mph. When you hit the left bank to leave it will stay 25 mph until halfway down towards the bridge, where it will then turn 40 mph and then 50 mph at the bridge.

Easier to remember, as soon as you hit the island, you go 25 mph. (This is playing it safe)

The city of North Wildwood is urging visitors on Facebook to follow the new posted speed,s adding “We ask that all drivers please be alert to the changes and exercise caution in this area.”

In other words, you have been warned, please spread the word.

This isn’t the only change coming to North Wildwood’s streets.

North Wildwood - NJ Ave Road Change

North Wildwood – NJ Ave Road Change

In a video we brought you a few weeks back, North Wildwood has reconfigured New Jersey Ave all the way up to 5th Ave. They made the road smaller and installed a turning lane down the middle.

On top of this, they have closed off access to Olde New Jersey Ave driving South to North (as if you were leaving the island).
