Wildwood Crest Home Sells for $2.35 Million Away From the Waterfront

Wildwood Crest has seen its fair share of expensive homes over the past few years, but a recent sale on Charleston Avenue caught our attention.

A single-family home at 122 E. Charleston Avenue in Wildwood Crest recently sold for $2.35 million, despite the property not being located directly on the ocean or bay.

The home was originally listed for $2,397,777 and ultimately closed for $2,350,000.

And while multimillion-dollar homes aren’t exactly unusual anymore at the Jersey Shore, seeing that kind of price tag on an interior residential street in Wildwood Crest shows just how much the local housing market has changed.

A New Level of Luxury in Wildwood Crest

According to the real estate listing, the approximately 2,700-square-foot home features five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, including three primary bedrooms.

But it’s the list of amenities and finishes that really starts to explain the $2.35 million price tag.

The exterior plans call for Hardie shake siding with woven corners, a standing-seam metal roof, Andersen 400 Series windows, brick veneer accents, and mahogany details along the front porch.

Outside, the property is expected to feature a 15-by-20-foot gunite saltwater pool, complete with a sun shelf, in-ground spa and heater.

There are also plans for a pool cabana with a television, an outdoor shower, a travertine walkway and pool patio, and a full landscaping package.

Inside, plans include five-inch solid white oak flooring throughout the home, vaulted ceilings, extensive high-end trim work and a large kitchen with a center island and Thermador appliances.

The bathrooms will include Moen fixtures, glass shower doors and fully tiled showers.

The listing says Next Generation Builders studied alongside one of Avalon’s high-end builders and is bringing some of that style and craftsmanship to Wildwood Crest.

And that comparison to Avalon is interesting because we’re starting to see some of those higher-end building trends make their way farther south on the island.

The Property Has Changed Hands Several Times

The history of 122 E. Charleston Avenue is also interesting.

The property sold for $720,000 in October 2024 before changing hands again for $835,000 in June 2025. At that time, it looked like one of the original cottages.

A few months later, it returned to the market with plans for the new luxury home and an asking price just shy of $2.4 million.

It eventually went under contract and closed for $2.35 million in August 2026.

That’s a difference of more than $1.5 million compared with the property’s previous sale, though it’s important to point out that this isn’t simply appreciation on the existing property. The newer price reflects an entirely different luxury home and all of the construction, amenities and development that come along with it.

Wildwood Crest’s Housing Market Continues to Change

For us, the most interesting part of this sale isn’t necessarily that someone spent $2.35 million on a house at the Shore.

We’ve seen plenty of homes in Cape May County sell for that and much more.

It’s where this particular house is located.

This isn’t an oceanfront property. It isn’t sitting directly on the bay. It’s an interior lot on Charleston Avenue in Wildwood Crest.

At approximately 2,700 square feet, the $2.35 million sale works out to roughly $870 per square foot.

Not too long ago, a price like that in the Wildwoods would have been much more closely associated with a waterfront property.

But Wildwood Crest has been changing.

Over the past several years, we’ve watched older cottages and smaller single-family homes disappear throughout the Crest as new, larger homes take their place. At the same time, the level of construction has continued to move upscale, with pools, spas, high-end appliances and custom finishes becoming increasingly common.

122 E. Charleston show just how far that trend has come.

It’s a large two-story coastal-style home with multiple gables, second-floor outdoor space, an attached garage and the kind of finishes and backyard amenities more commonly associated with some of Cape May County’s most expensive Shore communities.

And now we have a $2.35 million sale on an interior Wildwood Crest street.

Whether this becomes the new normal remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the Wildwood Crest housing market looks very different than it did just a few years ago.
