Atlantic City Aquarium to Officially Reopen This Summer!

The Atlantic City Aquarium, right in Gardner’s Basin in New Jersey, is like a magical portal into the ocean’s world. It’s all about teaching, entertaining, and making sure we take care of our marine friends.

After being closed for what feels like forever, finally, there’s some good news! The aquarium, shut since the pandemic hit in March 2020, is set to reopen on July 1, 2024. It’s a relief for everyone who’s been missing the chance to visit.

Situated at 800 N New Hampshire Ave in Atlantic City, this place used to be buzzing with life. There were baby stingrays, sharks, clownfish, and lots more swimming around. Groman, the loggerhead sea turtle, was a favorite among visitors.

Originally built back in 1999, the aquarium was open every day, letting people come in and marvel at over 100 different kinds of sea creatures. But then COVID-19 happened, and everything came to a stop. It’s been a long wait, but now things are looking up.

During the closure, they didn’t just sit around. Thanks to some funding help, they spruced up the place. New roofs, windows, lights, and floors were installed, making the place better than ever.

And guess what? They’re not stopping there. More improvements are on the way, thanks to the American Rescue Plan.

The Atlantic City Aquarium isn’t just a fun place to visit. It’s also doing its bit for the environment. They’re teaming up with local groups to help protect our oceans and the creatures that call them home. It’s all about making sure future generations can enjoy the wonders of the sea, just like we do.

The Steel Pier used to have a diving bell that would take visitors down to the ocean floor at the end of the pier. Most people didn’t see much but it was always exciting to feel the bell go down.
