Budd’s Bait and Tackle To Close After 43 Years
Those driving down Fulling Mill Road will soon not see a very familiar business.
After more than four decades of serving the local fishing community, Budd’s Bait and Tackle in Villas, NJ, is set to close its doors at the end of the 2024 season.
The beloved shop, located at 109 Fulling Mill Rd, has been a go-to destination for anglers of all kinds, offering live bait, tackle, and expert advice.
It is the kind of place in which many families would stop at before heading out to the bay to make that big catch or to pick up some crabs to steam up.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the owners shared the news with their loyal customers: “After 43 incredible years, the Budd’s have officially decided to retire. We would like to thank all of our loyal customers and wonderful staff for making this journey the best part of our lives. We will remain open throughout the rest of this 2024 season. We currently have a retirement red tag sale going on. Come on in and check out what’s left.”
The news has sparked an emotional response from long-time patrons on social media. Bob MJr reflected on his personal connection, saying, “So happy for the family but so sad for me. I have been going to Budds since I was around 12 years old. Bought so many firsts there. Learned so many things there… You will always be part of my best memories! Thank you so much and congratulations on the retirement!”
Bob Olivio added, “Oh no, where are we going to get our crabs? Best of luck Ben and Irene, enjoy your retirement.”
Throughout the years, Budd’s Bait and Tackle became more than just a shop; it was a staple in the local community, where fishing enthusiasts gathered to share tips, stories, and the thrill of the catch.

In a recent update, they said, “We still have crabs 🦀 Not many!!! The crabber is on his way in with the last catch of his crabbing career 🥳 Swing on by and pick up your last order and say goodbye.”
A this time, there is no word on what will be coming to this location but the building would be put up for sale. Many are hoping that whoever takes over will keep the murals of the crabs and fish on the building but that would be up to who purchases the building.
